mary san marco secretary : MARY SAN MARCO NEW PARK BOARD SECRETARY congratulations JULY 27TH Mary San Marco one of the sweeterest presences ever at the park has taken over as Ossining Dog Park Board Secretary. Mary goes back to before the beginning of the official park, back before where it was started - down bottom by the big pond, back before it was up the hill to where it is now. She has been a dog walker and is - I think: a certified dog trainer. Which is great for the park AND the dogs. Her dog is Cody a beautiful beagle

Dakota pitbull : Dakota, recent rescue girl aka: Dakota Rose, 'kotaDakota was gotten recently from the SPCA of Westchester . Pamela her owner wrote me this :" Doug, one of the guys who works there, told me that Dakota had been found down South with "Dallas" wandering along a highway, with another, larger and sturdier female "AmStaff Terrier" - who was thought to be Dakota's mother, but really typified the "Pitt Bull" breed both in demeanor and physique. The "No Kill" policy got them both sent up here and they had not been at the shelter long - Doug said that Dakota was the sweetest dog they had - it was love at first sight for me! (It was awfully hard leaving Dallas there but I knew my husband would go berserk if I brought home two dogs. But I kept "tabs" on Dallas and learned that she had been adopted not too long thereafter.) My husband was not hot on getting another dog since our Bloodhound/Shepherd, another rescue, DesiRae, had recently passed away - we had adopted her on my twin boys' birthday when they were 11 years old. (Desi's loss had affected me profoundly since both my boys were now in college and I had quit my full-time job as an interior designer in Boston area to come live with my hubby while he does this NY project.) I guess my husband didn't want to "tied down" - he certainly didn't expect for me to get a dog that stuck to me like superglue! Oh well . . . . But Dakota has managed to endear herself to almost everyone she meets, including the grouchy hubby! She has only barked 5-6 times since we've had her, and I am often stopped by people who comment on what a pretty, friendly dog she is - even my neighbors here in Hawthorne, a family of confirmed dog-phobics, have all fallen in love with Dakota. So, enough bragging already, huh? I've include some of the better pictures I have taken of Dakota. You are probably gagging at all this crap . . . sorry! "Kota" really has a pretty cushy life now - but I have no idea if she ever even had real home before. My vet up north thinks she's about 2 - 3 years old but she seems younger to me. "

HANK (wheaten , 6 mo.) : < Back To HOMEPAGE HANK, My 1st Real Client6 month wheaten, Just "fixed," Here's Hank's route along trail around the park. First day it wasn't so muddy from the snow melt. Idea was to leave Maddie in the park while I walked Hank but she was so "cool" that I wound up letting her play Rin Tin Tin everyday off leash around the park : making her forays into the woods and quickly back to us. Hank was constantly assured that as soon as he healed and grew up, he too could romp and frolic like Maddie.

New Wendy Pups : JUNE 3RD. All these pups now have homes. Kate of Angel & Roxy decided to keep her little character she was fostering : Bruiser, renamed him Artimis ( 3 Musketeers) aka : Artie. Bonnie and Baby went to the same adopter. I never met the rest of them. Baby and Bruiser ( now : Artie) lit up the park with their verve and antics. Baby was fostered by Pam, and stayed with all her splendiferous brood : Jet, Sarah, Moby, Faith: He will definitely benefit in yet unknowable ways by the experience. MAY 21 : Bonnie : one of Wendy's recent rescue puppies pictured below is recovering from surgery on her "cherry eye" and getting "fixed." Vizla Puppy arrives : VIZSLA PUPPY GIRL ARRIVES Elizabeth & Blake brought home their 8 week old Vizsla puppy girl today : Aprlil 17th. They're still waiting for the little girl's name to appear to them, though the right name may be : Chloe. We'll see. Still too young to come to the park till she's had her shots. Here's the whole unedited photo collection. I'll work more on this tomorrow. They're all fostered somewhere tonight : NEED HOMES. Want a puppy ? FROM WENDY ON FACEBOOK : "Wendy Weisberg has the mom and the puppies! They've been vet checked and completely vetted and microchiped. 3 black and tans, 3 blacks and 2 white and blacks. 6 boys and 2 girls. They have need of fosters and adopters asap. CAR STUCK 2 : THAT'S MY BUICK STUCK ON DOG PARK HILLmarty slides back down into ditch * All Is Well Now, Flatbed Tow Truck Freed the Car Next Day Shoulda left the car halfway up on that first plateau like I did last ice storm, and walked the rest of the way. Maddie had fun off leash running around the woods in the snow as I stuffed twigs and branches under the tires for traction. Brian w. monty & zim comes along. Then Chris of Amy the chow. We leave all the dogs in the park barking. Probably just Maddie barking. Spend an hour or so failing to get the car out as the wheels just keep spinning and digging a deeper ditch. We scavenged chains and such from the dark stone work shed, but even Chris's 4 wheel drive couldn't get enough traction to pull me free. Call triple AAA . Chris says he'll wait with me. AAA says guy will be there soon. Chris and I start driving down to the huge salt pile for the city plows down by the soccer field, and hauling buckets of salt/sand mix up to the stuck car area, salting the road there so the tow truck will have traction. Guy shows up, all he has is this little Jeep Wrangler with rigging on it : a winch and steel cable. Says, I'll never get any traction, your car's too heavy." as he sets his JEEP high up the road from my Buick, above where Chris and I had just salt and sand piled. " But why don't you set up here where there's traction now." " I don't wanna fight with you guys; they can get it out tomorrow>" On & on. " Ahhh... just get out of here you #@!!*&#!." Lock up the car, leave there all dismal as you will now find it. Get Maddie back up into Chris's all wheel and into the back with AMY the chow, Chris drives us home. Mercifully, my wife was asleep. Try again tomorrow.

WENDY WORLD : Icarus graduated recently from Guiding Eyes to become one of the first two dogs from Guiding Eyes to go into the service of a child with autism. There is a photo here of Wendy hugging Icarus at the dinner when he was presented to the family of his child. Other photos are of Icarus back when he was growing up at the dogpark. Wendy with her cat who passed away recently that she misses so much. Wendy and Omega, Icarus's daughter. Wendy crying with pride at Havey's Guiding Eyes test . Wendy just after Harvey's test, hugging him congratulations. All bets were against sweet little poetic Harvey passing. And more.

jimmy & Divot : Jimmy & Divot Are Supposed To Arrive Tomorrow: Wednesday May 13. * The Park's own southern gentleman and wookie sounding dog : Divot are due to return and grace us with another summer's worth of their company. Hope this summer goes better for Jimmy than last. I know my dog Maddieis gonna go right tail over shadow ( made that one up) when she sees her old girlfriend back. All we need is Lucy Pitbull for a girl gang reunion: Buffy, Barni, Divot, Lucy Below is a note Jimmy sent on leaving last Autumn.. Hi Marty--and to whomever else reads this, I just wanted to let everyone up there know that Divot and I had a safe, but long ride home. We stopped in Virginia Beach on Thursaday night around 3am. I have a good friend there and we stayed at his house. Friday morning we loaded back up and continued our journey. We stopped just outside of Charleston at my parents house for the night. Finally, this afternoon, we arrived home to see an excited Jennifer and Shanks- the kitty. I sincerely want to thank everyone for making us feel so welcome at the park. Divot will miss all the great puppies there and so will I. I think that most of all, Divot will miss Marty's side pocket full of cookies! I hope that everyone up there has a great winter and that you all stay warm! Just think of us everytime it's too cold to go to the park..we will be in shorts and sunglasses with the AC on! MOBY AT WESTMINSTER VIDEO : HERE's the link to video of MOBY at Westminster, breed judging. Working group, portuguese water dogs. http://video.westminsterkennelclub.org/player/?id=217322 click on it or copy and paste into your browser. I found it hard to recognize him at first so here is some help from me. Oh, believe it or not : his "stage name" is EUROPA. They all go around once , the last is a woman in black & white top. As they start around again (around 12:02 time left, counting down in the video) first a blond gray haired gentleman THEN ... (2nd, around 11:58) MOBY tallish man, gray greenish suit yellow left arm band , followed by tan suit then red top woman. Another group goes around ending with woman in white top camera foreground and a black & white dog visable. Then again at 10:48 after first dog is checked by judge , there is MOBY... judge checks, moby trots in style finished around 10:29. At 4:00 the individual judging seems finished, there's another big circle gatering..and then around 3:05 early in another run around, there's MOBY... with his tallish guy with the yellow arm band left arm, striped tie, reddish hair. After this , Moby must have been told to get himself back to Ossining DogPark because we never see him again. Remember Moby was being judged in "The Garden" where ( let me clear my throat here) the Knicks play.

2ND DISC SLIDE SHOW : Had to rush to put the UNLEASED FUND RAISER EVENT slide show together. We had lost our parakeet and then Maddie got into to her big encounter with the muskrat. Lost about two days. So, Dave (of the basenjis) came and got what I had so far on Saturday afternoon. I continued to gather more photos together, copied ( CONTINUED INSIDE )......... them to disc, then drove them down to Mystic Point on Saturday evening. Something about the copying to disc process didn't go right so the photos weren't able to be shown. Here's the disc in case you missed your dog. I ran out of time for many more of my favorite dog's photos. Turns out there are hundreds of dogs that have made their unique personalities known to me and the park.

AVERY (SAD) : Little Avery the young pitbull mix female has gotten herself into trouble. She gets so excited and forgets where the boundaries of play are. Had to leave the park the other day, under orders to get some training. Probably a good idea for a number of dogs. Still, I've always been a fan of Avery's capacity for ...... CONTINUED INSIDE ...... joy, and think of her as a sweet dog. Hope things work out for her. So sad when dogs that love the park so much find themselves kept from one of the best things in their lives - and worse , they innocently have no idea why.

DIESEL : DIESEL NEW RESCUE Diesel has come to the park. One and a half years old, bulldog. Lynn, who lost her dear 12 year old bulldog SPOT recently, adopted Diesel to keep PUGSLY her one eyed pug company. She sent me this note about Diesel's recent history. Hi Marty - The Diesel story as I know it. He lived with a family in NYC for a year (I assume they bought him as a puppy) and they had to move out of state. They put an ad on Craigs List and an older man who had desperately wanted a bulldog got him. He then got very ill and had to go into a hospital just one short month after he got Diesel. He was heartbroken. A friend of his took Diesel in, and called Long Island Bulldog Rescue. They had just received my application that day. She called me and we went to the city that night and returned with Diesel! It was love at first site - how could you not love that gorgeous wrinkled face? He is about 1 1/2 years old. Shae Finds Home : Shae Gets A Wonderful Home Charming, adorable wee Shae got himself the best home possibe. He was adopted friday by Sara, Barbara, Allie : the whole family bunch of them who bring the fabulous pair of puppies : Ripley & Raven to the park all the time; and even, once in a while, Lily the space pom. Fenced in yard, a cat, plus two older dogs. Liz who "owns" (ahem...) Charlie the super shy spaniel and Polly the Go Go Spaniel fostered Shae. What an amazing job she did. There's much more to the story that I'll try and put here later.

Scarlet Pimpernel poem : Leslie Howard : The Scarlet Pimperel My favorite "poem" on screen. 1934, Leslie Howard in the Scarlet Pimpernel. A heroic Zorro-like figure with a foppish effete alter ego cover, Sir Percy Blakeney, Howard is especially fabulous and outrageous in his constant rendition of Sir Percy's silly "poem." Equaled only by his many lessons in how to tie a cravat. My favorite things are the immediate comments, sounds, expressions without less than a smidgen of a pause right after the last word of each version. The "what?" at the end of the 1st version which seems to function as more the last line of the "poem" than a question; The woman who exclaims, "marvellous" and "it rhymes!" to which Sir Percy can answer, "Oh yes, it's a poem;" the way Sir Blakey pokes the evil Raymond Massey character on the last "pimpernel" word of the 3rd version.
